Consultative conference

South African Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will on
Tuesday, 17 April 2007, address the National Consultative conference on the
African Diaspora at the Misty Hills Country Hotel in Muldersdrift.
The National Consultative conference to be led by Foreign Affairs
Director-General, Dr Ayanda Ntsaluba is part of a series of regional
conferences held globally as a build-up to the African Diaspora Ministerial
meeting to be held in Durban in October this year and in preparation for the
African Diaspora Head of State and Government summit scheduled for 2008.
The objectives of the National conference is to create a platform in which
both government and members of civil society can engage in discussions of
substantial issues that will be on the agenda of both the African Diaspora
Ministerial and Head of State and Government summit, with a view to:
* fostering sustainable partnerships and to strengthen Pan-African
solidarity between Africa and the Diaspora
* proposing a realisable programme of action to create a momentum of
engagement
* creating partnerships to address global issues of mutual concern including
the attainment of Millennium Development Goals.
In this regard, the African Diaspora summit will convene under the theme:
'Towards the realisation of a united and integrated Africa and its Diaspora: A
shared vision for sustainable development' to address common challenges under
five themes:
* global dialogue, peace and stability
* regional development and integration
* economic co-operation
* historical, socio-cultural and religious commonalities
* women, youth, children and vulnerable groups
* knowledge sharing.
