The Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Ms Ntombazana Botha, invites
members of media to the official launch of the first National Archives Week.
The archives week starts on 12 June and ends on 16 June 2006 at the National
Archives and all provincial archives. The archives week provides an opportunity
for the public to visit the National Archives and provincial archives to learn
about the importance of archiving documents, audio-visual recordings and
processes of drawing heraldic art.
The programme for the week will include, inter alia, an official launch by
Deputy Minister Botha, presentations by different speakers about archives and
heraldry, video presentations about various functions of the archives and
screenings of South African films which are preserved at the Film Archives and
a tour of the heraldry and film archives facilities in Pretoria. There will
also be various activities aimed at introducing school learners to
archives.
