Deputy Minister Botha speaks at Mosadi wa Kono Kono (Woman Of
Substance) National Awards

18 June 2007

The Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Ms Ntombazana Botha invites members
of media to inaugural national Mosadi wa Kono Kono (Woman Of Substance) award
ceremony. Mosadi wa Kono Kono is an initiative of the Department of Arts and
Culture to encourage active participation of ordinary women in the
socio-economic development of their communities through arts and culture
projects.

The Mosadi wa Kono Kono campaign recognises women cultural activists who are
playing a pivotal role in the transformation of society using artistic
disciplines. The award ceremony is the culmination of a selection process that
took place across the country to identify excellent and sustainable arts and
culture projects. The projects include, inter alia, theatre, contemporary
dance, pottery, weaving, sculpture, sewing and ceramic work.

The selection process has produced a shortlist of 27 projects from all the
nine provinces. The Deputy Minister will announce three overall winners at the
event. The prizes will be in the form of money and participation in
international cultural exchange programmes. One of the highlights of the event
will be an exhibition to showcase the depth of artistic talent of women from
all the nine provinces.
