Minister-President of Lower Saxony, Germany, Mr Christian
Wulff, to visit South Africa

30 March 2006

Minister-President of Lower-Saxony, Mr Christian Wulff, will visit South
Africa from 4 to 9 April 2006. He will be accompanied by a business delegation
and representatives of Universities of Lower-Saxony.

Lower Saxony and the Province of Eastern Cape have launched a successful
partnership for development in 1995 with their former Premier Raymond Mhlaba.
Subsequent to the existing relationship, the Eastern Cape Province, led by
Premier Balindlela, in 2004 invited Minister-President Wulff to visit Eastern
Cape in terms of strengthening the economic relationship.

Within this framework one focus of the visit will be the strengthening of
trade relations between South African partners and Lower Saxony. This is the
seat of Volkswagen and will also host the Soccer World Cup 2006 in Hannover.
Minister President Wulff will have an exchange of views with Premier Balindlela
and her cabinet with a view to broadening the partnership.

Mr Wulff and his delegation will visit Port Elizabeth, East London, Bisho,
Mthatha, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town. The programme will take them to
Volkswagen and Daimler Chrysler in Port Elizabeth and East London, as well as
to joint projects of Lower Saxony and the Eastern Cape. Minister-President
Wulff and Premier Balindlela will also inaugurate an Arts and craft school for
the education and qualification of unemployed youth in Qunu at Mthatha, which
is financed with the support of Lower Saxony. The private sector delegation
will have joint meetings with representatives of the South African business
community.

In his position as senior representative of the Christian Democratic Union,
Minister-President Wulff will meet the Minister of Public Enterprises, Alec
Erwin, and other representatives of the South African Government and political
parties.
