Bhisho, South Africa - The Premier of the Province of the Eastern Cape, Ms
Nosimo Balindlela, today, 18 April 2006, announced the appointment of the
Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture
Ms Nomsa Jajula as the new MEC for Health.
MEC Thokozile Xasa was last week appointed as an acting MEC for Health
following the Premierâs decision to dismiss Dr Bevan Goqwana as political head
of the department.
The Premier further announced that a Member of the Provincial Legislature,
Noxolo Abrahams-Ntantiso, will replace Ms Jajula as MEC for Sport, Recreation,
Arts and Culture.
Abrahams-Ntantiso is a former Chairperson of Safety and Liaison and General
Secretary of the association on public accounts committees, sport, arts and
culture, education and public accounts committee.
The two MECs will resume their duties as members of the Executive Council on
2 May 2006. The Premier said in strengthening her team she decided to bring
more women who will be charged with responsibilities of making sure that
Provincial Growth and Development Plan (PGDP) is realised.
