Correctional Services Minister Ngconde Balfour will unveil the department's
much anticipated Integrated Human Resource Strategy (IHRS) on the 23 August
2007. The IHRS will highlight the Correctional Services HR roadmap for next
five years as the department seeks to intensify the implementation the White
Paper on Corrections.
The Minister will reveal the strategy at a gala event to be held at Velmore,
Erasmia, Pretoria North at 18h30. The gala event will be part of a two-day
Senior Management Service Conference called by the Minister for addressing
compliance challenges of Correctional Services. Signifying the importance of
the event, more than 160 Senior Management Service staff is expected to attend
the occasion. The department employs in excess of 41 000 members
countrywide.
The content of the strategy is based on the latest human resource trends to
guide the institution over the next five years including the apparent ever
elusive challenge of scarce skills.
Amongst the dignitaries expected to grace and speak at the gala event will
be the Deputy Minister of Correctional Services Loretta Jacobus, National
Commissioner Vernie Petersen as well as the Chairperson of the Select Committee
on Security, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Kgoshi Mokoena. Representatives
of Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) and the Public Service
Association (PSA), who are representing the majority of workers within the
Correctional Services, will also address the delegates at the gala event.
