Minister Balfour proffers condolences to families of the SAPS
members who died tragically on duty

The Department of Correctional Services wishes to express its heartfelt
condolences to the families of members of the South African Police Services
(SAPS) who died during the armed robbery at Jeppestown, Johannesburg.

We also wish those that were injured during the incident, a speedy
recovery.

The pain that you are going through following the tragic death of your loved
ones has affected us all. This is a moment that we need to hold hands together
and collectively pledge and demonstrate support to and sympathy for each other
as this is not only your loss but a loss to the entire South Africa.

We will ensure that the loss of your loved ones is not in vain. Their
courageous and heroic deeds will go down the annals of our history as a
permanent feature of South Africa�s institutional memory. They will be
remembered as martyrs, heroes and warriors in blue uniform who laid down their
lives so as to ensure that the people of South Africa enjoy peace and
stability.

Their passing on has further strengthened our efforts and commitment to
ensure that those responsible for this criminal and barbaric deed do not find
prison a �bed of roses.�
