Mpumalanga Local Government and Housing on housing beneficiaries contact
details

Housing beneficiaries urged to keep regular contacts with their
municipalities.

10 September 2007

The Mpumalanga Department of Local Government and Housing is urging all
approved applicants of government's houses to constantly update their contact
details with local municipalities. This is a drive aimed at locating the
approved beneficiaries once their houses have been completed. The department
requests the beneficiaries to inform housing authorities in their respective
municipalities about the changes of contact details. Some beneficiaries
relocate to other towns in search of better job opportunities.

The non-location of these beneficiaries makes it difficult for the
department and municipalities to allocate the houses to the approved
beneficiaries. This sometimes results in the houses being vandalised as they
lie empty whilst we search for the beneficiaries. It also results in delays in
payment to developers.

Beneficiaries are identified by their local municipalities and approved for
a housing subsidy if they qualify. Municipalities cannot, however, allocate
these houses to other beneficiaries until all reasonable steps are taken to
locate the approved beneficiaries.

The processes of deregistering untraceable beneficiaries and registering new
beneficiaries are both time-consuming and costly, which can be avoided by
people who have applied for houses updating their details with the local
municipality if and when these change. All approved beneficiaries are urged to
keep regular contact with their local municipalities and inform them
immediately of any change of contact details.
