Vuna Awards
19 November 2007
Best performing municipalities in Mpumalanga will receive awards as part of
honouring their efforts and endeavours to better their communities. The
Provincial Department of Local Government and Housing will award the
municipalities prizes of recognition through the Vuna Awards.
The awards give municipalities an opportunity to promote creativity,
innovation and efficiency on development programmes such as Municipal
Infrastructure Grant, Local Economic Development, good governance and enhanced
public participation.
The Vuna Awards are an incentive given to municipalities in recognition of
their sterling performance in providing services to their communities. For
municipalities to be nominated, they must have shown outstanding performance in
the six categories that have been set by the Department of Provincial and Local
Government.
These are infrastructure development and service delivery, local economic
development, municipal transformation and institutional development, financial
viability, good governance, most improved project consolidate municipality and
the Special Ministerial Award.
The municipalities competed in category C (Districts) and category B (Local
Municipalities). Winning municipalities in each category will pocket R750 000
and a trophy, whilst other participants will get certificates. MEC Candith
Mashego-Dlamini, Members of the Executive Council, Executive Mayors and
Councillors and senior government officials are expected to grace the ceremony
scheduled as follows:
Date: 23 November 2007
Time: 18h00
Venue: Protea hotel, Kruger gate
The winners will represent the province at a national event planned for
