Awareness Campaign
20 September 2007
The Department of Local Government and Housing is holding a Disaster
Awareness Campaign for the Bushbuckridge community and surroundings. This will
help them understand how to reduce the risk of disasters such as fire, road
accidents, floods and epidemics such as cholera and typhoid in their
communities. This is an on going campaign in different municipalities to try
and make the community aware of the risk of disasters that may befall them.
The campaign is in line with the department's disaster management strategies
in dealing with natural disasters. The activity will enable communities and the
province to better deal with occurrences like the recent veld fires that
ravaged the province. It is envisaged that the campaign will better position
communities in identifying potential risks on disaster and be pro-active in
preventing loss of life and property in a disaster situation.
Department of Local Government and Housing MEC, Candith Mashego-Dlamini,
will launch the campaign and give a keynote address. Sector departments will
also participate and assist to spread the message at the event scheduled as
