Mpumalanga to host Siyadlala Festival, 11 Feb

Siyadlala Festival aimed at reducing crime rate at Nkomanzi
municipality and the surroundings

The Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation Ehlanzeni
District will be hosting the Siyadlala Festival (Mass Participation Programme)
on 11 February 2006 at Kamaqhekeza open ground, Nkomazi Municipality.

The mass participation programme is focused on rural communities, farms and
areas that were identified as crime hot spots, such as Kanyamazane in
Nelspruit, Vosman in Witbank, Siyabuswa and Embalenhle. These programmes are
taking place around areas where there is Building for Sport and Recreation
Projects (BSRP) facilities as their support structures. The target group is
youth, women, and disabled people.

The purpose of the festival is to familiarise the communities with the games
and to introduce the new identified hubs. Activities that will be taking place
are street soccer, aerobics, general gymnastics, handball, volleyball,
indigenous games, youth dipapadi and netball.

The day will start with a 5km fun run followed by a formal programme and the
games will close the day. Schools around the Nkomazi area and the communities
are encouraged to come and participate to enhance mass participation.
Registration for the fun run will take place at Kamaqhekeza open ground at
07h00 and is open for everyone. The first 100 to finish the race will receive
gold medals and those who will finish after the first hundred will not receive
any medals but will participate for fitness.

The honourable Mayor Dr SV Khumalo Nkomazi municipality and the provincial
coordinator of the games will be amongst those who will attend the event.
