International Women's Day and the provincial launch of the Women Movement Task
Team that are planned to take place as follows:

Expected attendees: MEC for Culture, Sport and Recreation Nomsa Mtsweni,
other Provincial MECs, Different Women formations and National Government
representatives.
Background
The year 2006 has been declared by the Cabinet as the "Year of the Women in
South Africa". Its significance arises from the fact that it marks the 50th
anniversary of the Women's march to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956.
On Wednesday, 8 March 2006, in Cape Town together with the national Minister
of Arts and Culture Honourable Pallo Jordan and scores of stalwarts women from
all over the country, launched the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Women's
Anti-Pass March to the Union Buildings. The launch coincided with the
commemoration of the International Women's Day, (8 March).
About the Event:
The Women Movement Task Team is a non-political movement composed by women
coming from all corners of the province. Their responsibility will be to work
in conjunction with the national Office on the Status of Women (OSW) in
ensuring the democratic formation of the Provincial Women Movement, which will
be responsible for handling all programmes and issues relating and affecting
women in the Province. This Provincial Women Movement is planned to be launched
on 9 August during the Women's Day celebration
