The Gauteng MEC for Education Angie Motshekga has expressed her shock at the
disruptive behaviour of learners in the Honeydew and Diepsloot areas.
"We have learned this morning that the service provider who was supposed to
serve the 40 routes has withdrawn its services due to the dispute with the
department. However, officials in the Department have reported to my office
that this afternoon they have managed to secure buses from other providers
which will assist in stabilising the situation," said Motshekga.
The MEC said the department shares the frustrations of learners and parents
and made an appeal that learners refrain from burning tyres and electricity
boxes.
The Department will be monitoring the situation together with the South
African Police Service (SAPS).
