Union

exams

6 October 2006

The Gauteng Department of Education is about to approach the High Court to
obtain an interdict against the South African Democratic Teacher's Union
(Sadtu) from embarking on a strike that may affect the forthcoming
examination.

"For the sake of our children, we can not allow this behaviour of Sadtu to
go unchallenged," said Motshekga.

"We call all upon communities to rise against this threat. We also call upon
structures within education to persuade Sadtu to shelve their plans," said the
MEC.

A mass meeting will be held on Sunday during which Motshekga will address
the community about the Sadtu threat.
