The MEC for Education in Gauteng Angie Motshekga managed to resolve the
impasse between the scholar transport bus operators and her Department.
The MEC held an urgent meeting with the operators this morning in which she
expressed her complete dissatisfaction in the manner in which the
misunderstanding in payments of bus operators was handled. She has immediately
instituted a two-a-side team to deal with all outstanding matters.
Even though the operators have accepted the MECs intervention, they have
indicated that they still have to report to their members for the final
acceptance of the outcome of the meeting. The meeting is scheduled for later
this afternoon.
The Department has since put alternative mechanisms in place for in case
their decision may affect the transportation of learners on Monday.
"I am glad that the impasse is now over. We should have not allowed this
situation to prevail in the first place I am therefore awaiting a full report
on those who led us to this crisis, we cannot tolerate this anymore," said
Motshekga.
Motshekga said she appreciates the services being rendered by the bus
operators and committed her department to ensure that they support the
operators.
