Ministry for Public Service and Administration and SITA to host
Presidential Golf Challenge, 4 Feb

Media invited to the 2006 Presidential Golf Challenge

30 January 2006

The Ministry for Public Service and Administration (MPSA) and the State
Information Technology Agency (SITA) invite all media to the 2006 Presidential
Golf Challenge, to be held on Saturday, 4 February 2005, at De Zalze Golf Club
near Stellenbosch in the Western Cape.

The Presidential Golf Challenge is an annual charity event organised by the
MPSA, SITA and the main sponsor, Metropolitan, to raise funds for the Thabo
Mbeki Education Trust Fund. The event takes place a day after the State of the
Nation Address.

The Presidential Golf Challenge brings together senior government officials
at all three spheres of government.

It includes cabinet Ministers, Premiers, MECs, business and community
representatives. The inaugural Presidential Golf Challenge was held in 2002 and
has to date raised several millions of rand, with last year’s event alone
raising over R1 million.

In the past four years, the main beneficiary, the Thabo Mbeki Education
Trust Fund has awarded numerous bursaries to deserving students from destitute
backgrounds.

The Fund was set-up following President Mbeki's meeting with the community
of Crossroads in Cape Town in 1996. The community requested the President's
patronage and support in establishing a fund that would support needy students
in furthering their studies.

Initially, the Fund supported students studying at Western Cape-based
institutions only. Since 1999, the Fund has taken a national character and
supports students across the country.
