KwaZulu-Natal dam levels remain steady ahead of expected summer rains

Water levels in KwaZulu-Natal have remained stable ahead of the expected summer rainfall in the coming months, recording 84.7% this week from last week’s 85.0%.  Although the levels recorded this week have seen a minimal decline, they remain above average, with the Umgeni Water Supply System recording 94.2% from 94.7%.

Midmar Dam is at 91.6% from 91.9%, Nagle and Albert-Falls Dams stand at 85.3% and 93.1% respectively. The dams recorded 91.3% and 93.3% last week. Hazelmere Dam is below average at 48.2% from last week’s 48.6%. On the Tugela River, Woodstock Dam is unchanged at 85.0% and Spioenkop Dam is sitting at 100% from 100.4%.

Craigie Burn Dam is down from 100.8% to 98.9%, Ntshingwayo Dam on the Ngagane River has also decreased from 70.3% to 69.6%. Also experiencing a decrease is the Klipfontein Dam which has recorded 93.9% from 95.6% while Bivane Dam has not moved and remains the same at 97.3%.

The Department of Water and Sanitation has reiterated its pleas to consumers to use water sparingly, refrain from vandalizing water infrastructure, fix and report water leaks to local authorities while it continues to work collaboratively with the provincial and local government to ensure water security in the province.
