Minister Fikile Mbalula briefs media on findings of SIU and RTMC investigations, 24 Oct

The Minister of Transport, Mr. Fikile Mbalula with Adv. JL Mothibi, the Head of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) and Adv. Makhosini Msibi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Road Traffic and Management Corporation (RTMC) will Monday share findings of an SIU and RTMC investigations.

With the Proclamation No R37 of 2017, the SIU set to investigate certain affairs of the National Department of Transport, the Provincial Departments of Transport and Local Authorities and Entities that perform functions in terms of the National Road Traffic Act. Likewise, the RTMC instituted its own investigations, which have been reported and acted upon.

The SIU made findings and recommendations with regard to Driving Licensing and Testing Centers (DLTC) and other entities which are being implemented.

“Our government is committed to fighting corruption. This investigation has allowed the department to act on corrupt officials at driving licensing centers and other entities within the transport sector. South Africans continue to place their trust and confidence on government officials to deliver services without unduly benefiting themselves from the public purse. This, however, is hindered by corrupt individuals who through the delivery of these services help themselves to public funds. We commend a job well done by the SIU in uncovering corruption, enabling us to act and prevent further losses to the people of South Africa.” Minister Fikile Mbalula said.
