MEC Panyaza Lesufi to release the sanitation report in a meeting with Grade 12 learners who attend schools in Soweto
Gauteng MEC for Education, Mr Panyaza Lesufi, will release the findings of the sanitation report in a meeting with Grade 12 learners who attend schools in Soweto, on Monday 20 July.
Earlier this year, Equal Education released a report into the state of sanitation in Gauteng Schools. A team of professionals conducted quality assurance assessment on the 578 schools and have drafted a medium to long term recommendations. The assessment mainly makes recommendations relating to the adequacy of toilets at schools. The department has finalised plans to comply with the requirements of the Minimum Norms and Standards for Public school Infrastructure in relation to adequacy of sanitation.
The MEC will also address Grade 12 learners from Soweto at an Education Imbizo. The Imbizo with the learners is a precursor to the Big Switch On Phase Two Launch, in which 375 schools across Gauteng are moving from the archaic chalkboard to the digital interactive smartboards.
Grade 12 Learners will now utilise new technologies to learn, solve problems, develop critical thinking skills and communicate ideas, in order to compete with the best in the world. As the beneficiaries of the advancement of learning and teaching, theirs is to understand their role and what is expected of them when utilizing e-learning facilities.
