Deputy Minister Surty to adjudicate at Lilliesleaf History Essay Competition
Basic Education Deputy Minister Enver Surty will on Thursday evening, 06 September 2018 form part of an adjudication panel assessing the quality of learners History essays at the historical Lilliesleaf. Other members of the panel include historian and author Luli Callinicos, the Deputy Head of Lebone II Thebe Morake and Ian Macqueen from the University of Pretoria.
The Department of Basic Education, Lilliesleaf and the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences have partnered on an educational outreach programme since 2016. This year sees the programme extending to include an essay competition which will see learners from participating schools unpacking the importance of History within a South African context which they will write an essay on as well as making a presentation.
The programme has to date brought over 1200 high school learners from 14 schools around Gauteng to the historically significant Lilliesleaf.
