Marthinus van Schalkwyk, Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, will
deliver the keynote address at the opening of the 14th Session of the
Commission for Atmospheric Sciences (CAS) of the World Meteorological
Organisation (WMO) in Cape Town on Thursday. Joined by Michel Jarraud, the
Secretary-General of the WMO, Prof Anton Eliassen, the President of the CAS,
and Sizeka Rensburg, Chairperson of the South African Weather Service, the
Minister will focus his address on issues of air quality, climate change and
weather services. Thursday is also the first anniversary of the coming into
force of the Kyoto Protocol.
