M Tshabalala-Msimang to present National HIV and Syphilis Prevalence
Survey Report, 2 Aug

Release of the National HIV and Syphilis Prevalence Survey
Report

1 August 2007

The Minister of Health, Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang will present to the
media a full report of the national HIV and Syphilis survey at the Park Hyatt
Hotel in Rosebank tomorrow, (Thursday, 2 August).

The antenatal survey is conducted every year to estimate the prevalence of
HIV infection in all nine provinces using the standard unlinked anonymous
methodology [World Health Organisation (WHO)/UNAIDS].

To enhance the sensitivity of the estimates and to provide greater
robustness, the HIV sample size was expanded to provide (for the first time)
prevalence estimates for each district in the country in addition to the
national and provincial rates.

The media is invited to the presentation of the report as follows:
Date: Thursday, 2 August 2007
Time: 12h00
Venue: Ezweni Conference 1, 1st Floor, Park Hyatt Hotel, Rosebank
