towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

July 2007 marks a mid-point towards the target of year 2015 for the
attainment of the MDGs adopted by the United Nations (UN) in the year 2000. As
a UN Member-State, South Africa is assessing the progress thus far towards
achieving these goals which include improving maternal health, reducing child
mortality and combating HIV and AIDS, malaria and other diseases such as
tuberculosis (TB).
More than 100 representatives of health stakeholders are meeting at Hilton
Hotel in Sandton tomorrow to review progress in this regard. The Minister of
Health Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang will deliver an opening address to this
meeting at 9h15.
