Health MEC Ms Peggy Nkonyeni to officially open the first and only clinic in
Mfume, South Coast of Durban
9 February 2006
The national Health Minister, KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC and Mayor Mr Obed
Mlaba will officially open a clinic and announce the building of a
multi-purpose youth centre in Mfume on the south coast of Durban on Saturday,
11 February 2006.
The clinic is built on the land that was donated by national Health Minister
Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang's family. The clinic is staffed by four nurses and
two general assistants.
The construction of the clinic followed a new approach to the building of
clinics in rural areas by incorporating cottages with six bedrooms to
accommodate health staff posted in remote areas.
The clinic services 10 villages around the Thoyane Traditional Authority.
Hospitals that are closest to this community are Prince Mshiyeni Memorial
Hospital, which is 40km north of the area, and GJ Crookes Hospital, which is
26km towards the south.
The multi-purpose centre is going to be built by Planned Parenthood
Association of South Africa, to benefit the mostly unemployed youth in the
area.
The media is invited to attend the event which takes place as follow:
