Minister of Health to announce drastic salary adjustment for
nurses

The Minister of Health Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang will address the
country's hospital managers on the efforts to improve health service delivery
after the recent public service strike.

The Minister is expected to announce the drastic proposals around salary
increases for nurses presented by the Department of Health to health trade
unions. The Department of Health has proposed an up to 19% salary increase for
nurses to be paid retrospectively with effect from 01 July 2007.

The proposal also provides for salary improvements, which will come as a
result of career progression based on years of experience, performance and
educational qualification.
