Official opening of the Biennial Public Hospital Management Conference,
Birchwood Conference Centre, Boksburg, Thursday, 29 November 2007, starting at
08h30
The Health Minister will address a distinguished gathering of hospital
managers from nine provinces, academics from Witwatersrand, KwaZulu-Natal and
Harvard Universities, and a delegation from the French Government, World Bank
and the European Union Commission. She will speak at 10h00.
The objective of the conference is to evaluate the progress on the
three-year training of hospital management teams, which commenced at the
Universities of Witswatersrand and KwaZulu-Natal in February 2006, funded by
the French Government to a tune of R5,7 million (610 000 Euros) for a period of
36 months. This period ends in on 31 December 2007.
The conference is part of the Department of Health's response to the
President's State of the Nation Address of 2006 that committed this government
to increasing resource allocation for research and development, innovation, as
well as increasing the pool of young researchers.
The theme for this year's conference is 'Evidence Based Strategic Planning,
Enhancing Public Hospital Management.'
