Gauteng Premier to visit the Democratic Republic of Congo

The Premier of Gauteng, Mbhazima Shilowa will on Tuesday, 30 October 2007
travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for discussions with the
Governor of the Katanga province, Moise Katumbi Chapwe.

The one day visit will focus on areas of possible exchanges between the
Katanga province and Gauteng to bolster economic growth and social
development.

Discussions are expected to focus on skills development, the exchange of
expertise, especially on water and electricity supply, the management of road
systems and environmental impact assessments.

The development of small and medium enterprises and the co-operation between
cities in both provinces will also be among issues for discussion.

The visit will contribute towards the realisation of the primary objectives
of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (Nepad) to eradicate poverty
and place African countries on a path to sustainable path of growth and
development.

It will also strengthen relationships between South Africa and the
Democratic Republic of Congo. South Africa has helped the DRC with its first
democratic elections and through its transitional period.
