20 December 2006
Another challenging year has passed where we redoubled our efforts to make
Gauteng an even better place for all.
As we take a well-deserved break and celebrate the festive period, I urge
everyone to do so responsibly, be mindful of road traffic rules and ensure that
we lead healthy lifestyles and guard against contracting HIV and AIDS.
We should also remember those who are less fortunate than ourselves and open
our hearts to make the festive period a joyful one for them as well. I also
urge everyone to refrain from violence, particularly against children, women,
the elderly and the disabled. We should not keep quiet when we witness abuse.
Please speak out and report all forms of abuse to police.
To the nurses, doctors, police and security personnel who are working during
this period, I wish to thank and appreciate your work as it contributes to the
health and well-being of our people as well as the growth of our economy. In
your daily endeavour to serve the people of Gauteng I wish you well during this
period.
Finally, let us make sure that we all return next year and continue working
together to speed up service delivery and make Gauteng an even better place to
live, learn, work and to have fun.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
