Premier Mbhazima Shilowa will on Monday, 23 October 2006 release the
province's Social Development Strategy that was recently approved by the
Executive Council. The strategy will be unveiled at a stakeholders' meeting,
where various sectors of society will be interacting.

The Gauteng Social Development Strategy (GSDS) puts forward various ways in
which communities and individuals can be assisted to break out of the cycle of
poverty and dependency on grants. It works together with other provincial
strategies including the Growth and Development Strategy, the newly released
Human Resource Development Strategy and the Globally Competitive City Region
perspective to holistically grow society.

The GSDS is a government-led initiative that applies to all sectors of
society and reinforces the approach of all sectors working together in
partnership to achieve the common goal of creating a better life for all.
