Imbizo
14 August 2006
Premier Mbhazima Shilowa and members of his executive will visit various
communities across the province on Wednesday, 16 August 2006 as part of the
Gauteng Women's Imbizo.
The Premier, MECs and local government leaders will interact directly with
communities to give women an opportunity to raise concerns and suggestions with
government and to assess progress made in the province to improve women's
quality of life. They will also encourage communities to join hands with
government to advance women's rights and fight the abuse of women and
children.
The Women's Imbizo is part of month-long activities to celebrate women's
month in August, including the 50th anniversary of the heroic women's anti-pass
march on 9 August 1956. The Imbizo gives women an opportunity to directly
influence government programmes and contribute to the mainstreaming of gender
issues. They complement the regional women's dialogues which are taking place
in various metros and districts.
