Shilowa kicks off Gauteng Imbizo for 2006

26 February 2006

Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa and MECs will on Monday, 27 February 2006,
visit various communities as part of the Gauteng Imbizo campaign of direct
interaction with Gauteng residents.

Among the areas to be visited are some of the 20 major townships that will
be upgraded as part of the Gauteng renewal initiative announced by the Premier
in his State of the Province address earlier this month.

The Premier and MECs will talk to residents about the provincial
government's priorities for the year ahead as outlined in the Premier's
address. They will also address concerns and suggestions raised by residents
and speak to them about plans to improve their areas and the province as a
whole.

The Executive Council plans to visit at least 35 communities as part of the
Gauteng Imbizo this year. Direct dialogue and feedback from communities enables
government to streamline service delivery aimed at improving people's
lives.

In some areas, government leaders will conduct walkabouts from 15h30 which
will be followed by public meetings, which are scheduled to start at 17H00.

The venues for the public meetings are as follows:

* Premier Mbhazima Shilowa: Refilwe Community Hall, Refilwe,
Metsweding
* MEC Gwen Ramokgopa: DH Williams Hall, Katlehong, Ekurhuleni
* MECs Qedani Mahlangu and Firoz Cachalia: Itireleng Sports Ground,
Atteridgeville, Tshwane
* MEC Khabisi Mosunkutu: Munsieville Hall, Munsieville, West Rand
