Mtholephi Mthimkhulu to launch summer planting season

The MEC for Agriculture and Environmental Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr
Mtholephi Mthimkhulu, will tomorrow, 16 November 2007 launch the summer
planting season for the northern districts of the department's north
region.

During the summer planting season launch, MEC Mthimkhulu will also unveil to
the public the financial breakdown of the department's budgetary allocation for
numerous service delivery projects in the five districts that make up the north
region. The five districts are uMzinyathi, Amajuba, uThungulu, Zululand and
uMkhanyakude.

More than R250 million has been specifically allocated to the five districts
for core service delivery projects during the current financial year and the
2008/09 financial year.

These service delivery projects include mushroom and food security
programmes, livestock revitalisation and development programmes as well as
corridor massification programmes.

MEC Mthimkhulu will also be accompanied by MEC for Health Honourable Neliswa
Nkonyeni. During the launch several schools and community garden project
co-operatives within the Ndumeni municipality will receive garden implements
and seedlings.

In addition, the Department of Health will be offering a number of on-site
mobile primary health care services such as eye testing, voluntary counselling
and testing, checking of high blood pressure and the department will also be
handing spectacles and walking sticks to senior citizens.
