KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture and Environmental Affairs Mtholephi
Mthimkhulu together with MEC for Arts, Culture and Tourism Weziwe Thusi will
embark on a walk-about on the Durban Beachfront as part of the Education and
Awareness Campaign on cleanliness and safety for holiday makers and tourists
presently visiting the province during this festive season.
Both MECs will hand over safety tips leaflets and litter bags to members of
the public as part of a concerted effort to ensure that the recreational
facilities on the Beachfront are clean for use by visitors and locals alike
within a safe and secure environment. They would also give an update on the
Spring High Tides of last March including the resultant coastal erosion and its
effect on the tourism sector and the remedial work that has been done to ensure
that tourists continue to enjoy the amenities as they were used to in the
past.
The MECs will also get a briefing from the police on their security plan for
the festive season on the beach front. In addition, the two MECs will also join
Durban Solid Waste staff in collecting and removing litter on the beach front
to demonstrate the importance of cleanliness.
Members of the media are invited to join the two MECs at the South African
Police Service (SAPS) Metro Police Joint Operations Communications Centre from
10h00.
