Home Affairs Director-General welcomes the arrest of an
official

Home Affairs Director General, Mavuso Msimang welcomes the arrest of Donnah
Boloka, a clerk at the Department's ID production unit, New Corporation
Building in Pretoria for attempting to steal 10 identity documents at the
weekend.

Donnah Boloka was arrested during a routine security body search on her way
home for hiding 10 IDs under her armpits. She was charged with theft of
identity documents and remained in custody whilst investigations are underway
to establish her associates, both inside and outside the department. She will
appear in the Pretoria Regional Magistrate court today.

"The Counter-Corruption unit is vigilant in its efforts to root out
corruption within the rank and file of Home Affairs. Since its establishment in
2004 the department has successfully dismissed over 200 officials for indulging
in fraudulent activities (ID theft or issuing of illegal documents etc),"
Mavuso Msimang said.

Meanwhile, the Director-General commended the arresting officer for a
sterling work in ensuring that Home Affairs is not a safe heaven for corrupt
officials. He also urged other Home Affairs officials and members of the public
to report any form of corruption by dialling a National Anti-Corruption
hotline: 0800 701 701.
