Insurance Fund
7 March 2006
One of the top priorities of the Minister of Labour in the 2006/07 financial
year and beyond is to have an improved service delivery by all organs of the
Department of Labour. In his Ministerial programme of action, the Minister has
emphasised the urgent need to strengthen and increase the effectiveness of
agencies associated with the Department of Labour in delivering services to the
clients.
An important aspect of this programme of action is to ensure that the
Department and all its public entities improve on their financial and
non-financial (service delivery) performance.
The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) is one of the most important service
delivery arms of the Department. Recent statistics indicate that more than 1.7
million unemployed workers have received some form of assistance from the UIF
in the past 11 months. The Fund has assets in excess of R10 billion.
As part of his programme of action, Minister Membathisi Mdladlana will be
visiting the UIF head office in Pretoria on Thursday to address staff.
There will be media opportunity after the Ministerâs address to staff.
