Skills empowerment and vocational training â the key components of the
government's job creation drive - will top discussions when Labour Minister
Membathisi Mdladlana, his Algerian counterpart Tayeb Louh and their respective
delegations meet in Cape Town on Monday, 26 February.
The discussions form part of the Algerian delegation's three-day visit to
the country, which entails seeking co-operation on areas including social
security, occupational health and safety, labour relations and unemployment
benefits.
Discussions particularly on skills development and vocational training take
place at the backdrop of the government having just committed a substantial
amount of its annual budget to Further Education and Training colleges for
enhancement of artisanship training.
Minister Louh's visit occurs just over a week after Minister Mdladlana
hosted his Namibian counterpart Alpheus !Naruseb and his delegation, while a
similar Chinese Labour Ministry delegation was in South Africa towards the end
of last year.
It also follows up to the Algerian trip by Minister Mdladlana and a
delegation that included South African Social Security Agency and the National
Youth Commission in November 2005.
The media is invited to attend.
