Minister to launch electronic filing system for domestics

7 August 2006

As women across the country prepare to commemorate the 50th anniversary of
the significant 9 August women’s march, the Department of Labour says millions
of rands have already been paid out to domestic workers, who are predominantly
women.

This year, 2006, marks the third anniversary of the inclusion of domestic
workers in the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) and to coincide with Women’s
Month, Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana, is scheduled to release official
statistics on the registration of the domestic sector.

Minister Mdladlana will deliver a keynote address at the launch of a new
channel to facilitate the payment of employers’ monthly contributions and
submissions of required documents to the Fund.

The new collection channel in the form of an online electronic filing system
– uFiling - will be available to all registered employers of domestic workers
and for small businesses.

Members of the media are invited to attend the launch of uFiling, which will
take place at the head offices of the UIF in Pretoria on Thursday, 10 August
2006, at 09h00.
