Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana today welcomed the agreement signed
between security employers and South African Trade and Allied Workers Union
(Satawu).
The deal brings to an end a protracted three months strike that resulted in
bloodshed and damage to property.
âThis agreement vindicates the importance of social dialogue in South
Africa. We are happy that at last the parties have listened to the voice of
reason and did what we have always been calling for, we also hope that this
will lay to rest all the calls for my intervention as the law does not allow me
to,â he said.
Section 150 of chapter seven of the Labour Relations Act (LRA) allows the
Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) to intervene in
the matters of national interest, he said.
