The 97 years of the Potchefstroom College of Agriculture will be marked by
the Graduation Ceremony that will be addressed by Honourable MEC for
Agriculture, Conservation and Environment, Mandlenkosi Mayisela, on Thursday,
30 March 2006 at Potchefstroom College.
About 50 students will receive their Diplomas and Certificates for
successfully completing their courses in Agriculture. The MEC, Acting Principal
and his Management Team take the graduation of the college as an opportunity to
encourage graduates to explore that. The Department of Agriculture,
Conservation and Environment seconded Mr Richard Serage, the office manager in
the office of the Acting Deputy Director-General as a Caretaker Principal for
the Agricultural Colleges in the North West province with effect from 1
February 2006.
This is an acting position and is to ensure that the smooth and effective
running of the college is administered without any hindrance after the
departure of the Principal Mr Jan Louis Venter. Mr Venter has been offered a
position within the agricultural sector in the Free State province hence he
requested to be released from his current duties.
Mr Serage is a former member of staff from Potchefstroom College and was
responsible for student affairs at Potchefstroom College. His expertise was
seen relevant within the department to enhance the daily business of colleges
whilst the filling of the post is receiving attention.
"I wish the Mr Serage well in his acting position and hope that he will
receive unequivocal support from staff and students as his credentials within
the Agriculture has shown that he has the interests of the sector," Mayisela
said.
This should be seen as part of the process to uphold to the excellence
within the agricultural sector also to benefit the future agriculturists to
continue to develop and sustain agriculture as economically viable to create
jobs and alleviate poverty. The MEC also wishes Mr Venter well in his
endeavoured career.
