The annual congress of Agri-Mpumalanga looks at challenges and opportunities
facing the industry. Role players in agriculture will for the next two days be
engaged in discussions about issues impacting on the industry. Business,
farmers, service providers, government and other stakeholders will converge on
Graceland in Secunda to deliberate on agriculture's input in the province's
economy and development. Provincial MEC for Agriculture and Land
Administration, Madala Masuku is expected to deliver a keynote address by
looking at the government's perspective on the matter.
The congress themed âThe role of commercial agriculture in the accelerated
strategic growth initiative â Mpumalanga's future perspective,â will look at
the role of achieving the national objective of six percent growth as set out
by the Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (AsgiSA).
AsgiSA aims at the six percent growth to alleviate poverty and create jobs.
The two-day congress will deliberate on these four critical areas:
* agriculture's contribution to the province's economy
* involvement of municipalities regarding development
* agricultural environment in relation to economic stability
* Agri-Mpumalanga's role in influencing the political environment for
trading.
