Science and Technology Minister Mosibudi Mangena invites you to a media
launch, wherein he will announce the name of the satellite, as well as the
winner who came up with the name in the "name the satellite challenge".
The competition was open nationally to all learners from grades 7-12. Over 3
000 entries were received. It's now down to three. Minister Mangena will draw
the overall winner on Monday, 31 July. The winner will walk away with a PC and
also get to go to the construction site of the satellite. The two runners-up
will not walk away empty handed.
South Africa's low earth orbiting satellite will be launched into space from
a submarine in Russia in December 2006. This is part of a multi-million rand
research and capacity building project of the Department of Science and
Technology.
