As part of celebrating the 30th anniversary of the youth revolt of 16 June
1976, Science and Technology Minister Mosibudi Mangena and Education Minister
Naledi Pandor will sign a collaboration plan between their departments. This
plan will facilitate and support the effective implementation of the National
Strategy for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education as well as the Youth
into Science Strategy (YISS).

The collaboration areas in this plan include:
* Teacher development to upgrade knowledge and skills;
* Enhancing learner participation and performance;
* Identifying and nurturing talent and potential; and
* Placing and supporting learners in higher education and key strategic
economic sectors in support of the National System of Innovation.
The plan underlies efforts to radically increase the number of young people
entering science, engineering and technology and remaining there as part of the
national pursuit of sustainable socio-economic growth and an improved quality
of life for all.
