In response to media enquiries about the provision of air transport to the
President and Deputy President, the Ministry of Defence wishes to reiterate
that it is handling this matter. Minister Mosiuoa Lekota has announced that he
is appointing an enquiry into the matter, the outcome of which will be
communicated in due course. Furthermore, the Minister has directed that the
enquiry will be comprehensive in scope and will cover the period between 1
January 2006 and 10 December 2006.
It should be added that the same principles apply to all air travel by the
Deputy President, namely: that decisions on the air transport provided are the
sole responsibility of the Department of Defence.
