of Pule Ace Ntsoelengoe
9 May 2006
The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba says the passing away of
soccer legend Ace Ntsoelengoe is a great loss to the country.
âIt was with great sadness and anguish that I learned of the untimely
passing of Pule âAceâ Ntsoelengoe, former Kaizer Chiefs and South African
soccer maestro. A deep sense of desolation has enveloped the entire
sport-loving South Africa as yet another hero and icon takes a bow from life,â
said the Deputy Minister.
âThose who had a privilege to witness this great maestro in action will
forever tell the story of how an ordinary boy from South Africaâs dusty
townships turned extraordinary through his feet of magic and enchanting talent.
He played for Kaizer Chiefs but earned himself the adoration and admiration of
all South Africans, regardless of sport soccer team they supported.â
Praising the role played by Ace as role models to the youth, Mr Gigaba said:
âHis discipline, both on and off the field, became a majestic example of all
soccer players, sportsmen and woman.
âHis modesty in greatness became a lesson to all on how to conduct the
business of our lives. His life illuminated the path of thousands of
sportspeople in our country. Too much we had expected still from him, but fate
had it otherwise. Death has robbed South Africa of a noble and feted son.
âMay his soul rest in peace.â
