M Gigaba offers condolences on death of L Mathosa

Message of condolence from Home Affairs Deputy Minister

23 October 2006

The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba, has received with
extreme shock and sadness the news of the tragic passing away of Lebo Mathosa,
one of the most sensational singers and artist this country has ever produced.
Lebo represented a group of those young people who went beyond their normal
duties in the quest for the creation of a better South Africa. She had
participated in many activities to educate the youth about many social issues
such as HIV and AIDS Awareness campaigns and others.

Together with her group, Boom Shaka, Lebo travelled all corners of this
country to educate young people about dangers of HIV and AIDS and drug abuse.
She is maybe no more, but we draw comfort from the fact that her music will
remain with us forever. She was a diva extraordinaire. Her death is a terrible
national loss and a sad demise of an icon and immensely talented artist. Her
loss will be felt more intensely by the youth of South Africa in the days and
years to come.

An important part of all of us is gone, suddenly and tragically. South
Africa has been robbed of a favourite and much adored daughter. The Deputy
Minister sends his condolences to the Mathosa family and friends.
