M Gigaba to host Take a Girl to Work, 25 May

Deputy Minister Malusi Gigaba to host ‘Take a Girl Child to
Work’ initiative

24 May 2006

As a further commitment to the youth skills development programme, the
Department of Home Affairs will be hosting 20 girls from Vukani Mawethu High
school in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria tomorrow, 25 May 2006.

The girls will spend a day in the Department where Deputy Minister Malusi
Gigaba will host them for breakfast. They will then be exposed to the different
functions of the Department, particularly civic and immigration services.

The event is part of Cell C’s “Take a Girl Child to Work” initiative
supported by government and the private sector to afford girls in grades 10 to
12 a chance to experience a variety of career opportunities by spending a day
in a range of workplaces countrywide.

Deputy Minister Gigaba said, “The Department of Home Affairs takes pride in
joining this noble initiative.”

According to him, the specific objective of the initiative is to deepen the
thinking of a girl child with regards to their infinite roles in the society
which prepares them for their chosen field of work.

“We hope that we are contributing in a little way to change our society for
the better. Young girls are our future leaders and role models so we should
invest the necessary time and effort in them,” concluded Mr Gigaba.
