completion of Home Affairs National Identification System (HANIS) first

The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba invites members of the
media to a briefing marking the completion of the Back Record Conversion (BRC)
Project to be held on Monday, 23 October 2006 in Pretoria.
The BRC Project was initiated as part of HANIS to scan and absorb the
approximate 30 million hard copy fingerprint records, which are housed by the
Department. Its core objective was to convert existing hardcopy records from
paper based images into digital images to allow for faster and more accurate
identification of persons.
