25 July 2006
Transport and Public Works MEC Marius Fransman will reveal a new public
transport integrated fare system that will ensure that commuters can use their
coupons/tickets to board a bus, a taxi and a train to their various
destinations.
MEC Fransman will introduce this system when he announces preferred bidders
who will be appointed to receive the tender for the implementation of the new
system.
At present commuters are forced to use cash to board various modes of public
transport, as there is no integrated public transport fare system. This
inconveniences thousands of commuters as many of them are poor and have to
divide their money between themselves and other family members.
The new system called Integrated Fare Management and Intelligent Transport
System will ensure a proper management of fares which is essential to ensure
that a smooth operation of the system, and will also serve as a safety and
security measure.
This new system will also inform commuters through computer screens on
busses, taxis and trains of times and destinations of their next mode of
transport.
There will be a presentation of how the new system will work and lunch will
be served.
You are invited to witness this revolution in the public transport system
that will ease the financial burden on commuters, and ensure a smooth-running
and a safe public transport system.
