The Limpopo Legislature will be on a week-long campaign to listen to
people's reaction and inputs on the amendments on the Children's Bill. The
Portfolio Committee on Health and Social Development under Honourable Sheila
Sithole's leadership will go out to more than five venues from 13 to 15
November 2006.
On Monday, hearings will be at Vhembe (Nancefield Community Hall), Waterberg
(Mookgopong Community Hall), Sekhukhune (Marble Hall Town Hall, and on
Wednesday, 15 November 2006, hearings will be at Mopani (Lulekani Community
Hall - Phalaborwa), Capricorn (Boeresaal Hall - Dendron). All hearings start at
10h00 in the morning.
The Bill, seeks to amend the Children's Act, 2005, so as to insert certain
definitions, to provide for partial care of children, to provide for early
childhood development, to make further provision regarding the protection of
children, to provide for prevention and early intervention services, to provide
for children in alternative care centres, shelters and drop-in centres, and to
create certain new offences relating to children.
At the end of the hearings, the Bill will be debated in the Provincial
Legislature before the findings and contributions of the communities of Limpopo
are sent to the National Parliament for ratification.
