Limpopo to launch Makuya MPCC, 18 Feb

Makuya Multi-Purpose Community Centre (MPCC) closes service
delivery gaps

16 February 2006

Following a research led by the Government Communication and Information
Systems (GCIS), the Limpopo Provincial Government established Makuya MPCC as a
way of bringing services closer to the residents of Mutale Municipality. The
launch will be held on 18 February 2006 at Ha-Makuya in the Vhembe
District.

Government establishes MPCCs to provide communities with services in
accordance with Batho Pele principles. Makuya MPCC was identified strategically
in between Makuya Police Station, Postal Agency, Library, Crèche and Clinic.
The Centre is located 70km north of Thohoyandou and is situated within Mutale
Municipality MPCCs have been defined as primary vehicles that help government
to convey its information and messages on its services to the people.

Each and every district and metropolitan council in the country must have
one MPCC to help in the dissemination of information on services like pension,
health education, identity documents, library and computers.

Consultative meetings and awareness campaigns on the Mutale MPCC initiative
were held for buy-in and rollout processes. The Limpopo Local Development Forum
(LLDF), through Kumba Resources (Tshikondeni Coal Mine), donated an amount of
R150 000. The donation was later used for the acquisition of additional
computers for the telecentre.

The MPCCs area of operation covers at least 20 villages within the Makuya
Tribal Council and 10 from Mphaphuli Tribal Council, all predominantly rural.
In addition to that, the communities will be able to get services, which they
were unable to obtain in the past and be able to participate in activities that
will allow for two-way communication between the government and the people.

After the launching, departments that will be providing services include
Sport, Arts and Culture, Transport, Labour, Home Affairs, Economic Development
Environment and Tourism and GCIS.

The MPCC will cater for the following villages of Gondeni, Mathaga, Domboni,
Khavhambe, Maholoni and other surrounding areas. The establishment of Makuya
MPCC will have significant economic opportunities to Mutale Local Municipality
and this is because the current reality is that the area fall within the belt
of tourism and mining potentials.
